Internet brings together thousands of singers to create virtual choir

I saw this on the news the other night and I had to share it with everyone. A guy named Eric Whitaker has created a virtual choir over the Internet. He starts by uploading a YouTube video of himself conducting the choir with background music. Then people listen to the music and record themselves singing various harmony parts in time with the music. He then assembles hundreds (or even thousands) of these separate YouTube videos into single performances. Here are the YouTube videos of his first two efforts.

This one contains 185 voices from 12 countries.

The 2011 Virtual Choir 2.0 video features 2052 performances of ‘Sleep’ from 1752 singers in 58 countries, individually recorded and uploaded to YouTube between September 2010 and January 2011.

The third version of the choir has collected over 3000 voices and is currently in production. For details visit… http://virtualchoir.org
